What Is a Closed-Loop Stored-Value Card?
A closed-loop stored-value card is a logic-encryption contact IC card that carries a small prepaid balance for spending inside one system — a canteen, catering chain, parking lot or staff site. Built on the Infineon SLE4442 and China-made FM4442 chip, it adds a password and error counter on top of EEPROM, so the balance is protected against casual tampering.
Because it is closed-loop — money is spent only within your own network, not on banking rails — no EMVCo or UnionPay certification is required. What does "closed-loop" mean for a stored-value card?
Closed-loop means the balance can only be spent within your own system — a canteen, catering chain or parking network — and never on outside banking rails. This keeps the card simple and removes the need for payment-scheme certification.
Do closed-loop stored-value cards need EMVCo or UnionPay certification?
