What Is an Access Control & Campus Card?
An access control & campus card is a logic-encryption contact IC card used to store credentials and ID data for building access, offices and campus systems. Built on the Infineon SLE4428 and China-made FM4428 chip, it offers 1 KB of EEPROM with password protection — larger than an SLE4442, so it can hold more access rights, ID fields and usage records.
It is a closed-loop card: it works within your own access and campus system, so no EMVCo or banking certification is required. What is the difference between SLE4428 and SLE4442?
The SLE4428 has 1 KB of memory — four times the 256 bytes of an SLE4442 — making it better suited to access and campus cards that store more IDs, rights and records. Both are logic-encryption cards with password protection.
Are these cards compatible with existing SLE4428 readers?
Yes. SLE4428 and FM4428 are pin- and command-compatible, so the cards work as drop-in replacements in existing access readers and systems without hardware changes.
Do access & campus cards need any certification?
No. As closed-loop cards used within your own access or campus system, they do not connect to banking networks, so no EMVCo or UnionPay certification is required. For cryptographic security or payment, a CPU card is the better choice.
